Her life. Her light. Her legacy.

Danielle’s Story

Danielle Frances Palmer was a highly intelligent, passionate and determined young woman—a much-loved daughter, sister, whānau member, friend and early childhood teacher.

A natural high achiever, Danielle also excelled as a swimmer and cross-country runner. She loved travelling, discovering new places and experiencing the wider world. Her intelligence, dedication and strong sense of purpose were reflected in earning her teaching degree with distinction.

Danielle was especially passionate about early learning. She understood how profoundly a child’s early years can shape their future and cared deeply about children growing up with social or economic disadvantage. She believed every child deserved to feel safe, valued and supported—and to have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Danielle drew strength and identity from both her paternal Māori and maternal Italian heritage. Her regular visits to Matakana Island to spend time with her large extended whānau kept her grounded in her Māori ancestry, family and sense of belonging. She felt a deep connection to Mauao, Matakana Island and its beaches, and the wider Tauranga Moana—places that remained close to her heart wherever life took her. Her appreciation of her Italian heritage was equally evident, reflecting the importance she placed on family, culture and connection.

Danielle died by suicide in July 2025. Even in death, she gave others hope: through organ and tissue donation which she was very passionate about.

The Danielle Palmer Foundation was created so her light lives on—transforming the love she inspired, the values she lived by and the causes she cared about into meaningful opportunities for children, young people and communities across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

Danielle’s life continues to inspire our purpose.
Her light is now in all of us.
